In the context of the celebrations of the Centenary of the Apparitions, Casa Leitão created the “Precious Cross” in gold, silver and diamonds, inspired by the Precious Crown of the statue of Our Lady of Fátima, of the Chapel of the Apparitions. The cross, of modern design, is worked in all three dimensions, masking uses of soft and fluid lines. In the centre, carved in relief, there is a sculpture in gold of the Precious Crown, surrounded by the light of 13 diamonds.
In 1941, Portugal being a neutral country, a group of Portuguese started a movement that culminated in a national fundraising campaign for the manufacture of a queen’s crown for Our Lady of Fátima. They requested only jewellery so as to make the crown directly using the gifts of each. In this context and using only the gold, silver and precious stones, offered generously, Casa Leitão created and manufactured free of charge, in 1942, the Crown of Our Lady of Fátima, currently the most remarkable piece of Portuguese jewellery of the twentieth century.
